How-to: Adorable Paper Holly Garland

Posted by Jessica Walton on 4th Dec 2017

Whether draped over table chairs, placed on the dining table or used to decorate the Christmas tree, this craft will look beautiful anywhere. The addition of little hearts instead of simple berries gives this a warm and handcrafted feel, that is also guaranteed to make this garland a little more interesting and unique. So be sure to have a go yourself and create something that will be stunning yet simple as well as family friendly.

What you will need:
Green Card
Pink Card
Red Card
Hole Puncher
Red Tweed String
Glue

Step One:

First start by creating a holly leaf stencil, this can be drawn free hand as they are a relatively simple shape. Then begin to create the rest of the holly leaves by folding this stencil in half and then placing folded card in. This will create symmetry and consistency throughout the leaves.

Step Two:

After drawing the leaf cut this out, I would recommend doing this when the card is still folded as it will mean there is still symmetry.

Step Three:
Next, place glue down the center of the fold that was created when drawing around the stencil.

Step Four:
Then place the red tweed string down the center of the leaf where the glue it, this should sit nicely in the fold. Hold this is place for a few moments for the glue to dry a little.

Step Five:

Next add a little more glue to the inside of the leaf and place another leaf on top, this will hid the string and also make it look cleaner.

Step Six:
Use the hole puncher to cut out the little hearts in both pink and red, these will be used as the berries in between the leaves already placed on the string.

Step Seven:
Use a dab of glue on each corner of the heart then place the little heart under the string and another over the top, sandwiching the string between the two then hold until the glue has dried.

Step Eight:
Continue adding the leaves and little hearts the the string, alternating between leaves and little hearts and well as the colour of the little hearts.

With such simple elements and easy preparation, this is a perfect idea for anyone who is new to craft or wants to get the kids involved with homemade pieces for the house. So why not make this Christmas a little more handcrafted and bring that warming festive vibe to your decorations?
