Wedding Wednesday: Place Settings

Posted by Jessica Walton on 26th Oct 2016

One key element that is commonly overlooked when dressing a table at a wedding is the place settings. Centrepieces are often the element that draws the most attention but that isn't the only thing that makes a table. There are two key elements to consider the first of which is aesthetics. If you have a themed wedding, you want the theme to continue through each individual aspect, including the place setting. The second element is the functionality. Above all it has to work!

For each setting, there is a small knife and fork (On the outside) for starters, a large knife and fork on the inside (For the main course) and a small fork and dessert spoon for dessert. Also a side plate to the left for bread. These need to be dressed and styled in accordance with the theme of the wedding. Charger plates are a great way to continue the colour theme through the place setting, they brighten up a typically dull space like in the picture below:

Glasses area another aspect that is not commonly utilised. Typically you will receive 3 glasses, a small wine, large wine and champagne flute. During my experience working weddings I have seen hundreds and different favour and name card placements, but I believe the ones attached to glasses add the most to the table. While freeing up space they help to add layers to the decorations, by being at different heights to the other decorations they increase the texture available.

Overall there are multiple elements to a place setting that can be manipulated in order to create new effects and unique aspects not seen before. But its all down to your creativity and what you can come up with! Check out our wedding department here for more inspiration.
