Wedding Wednesday: Place Names

Posted by Ophelia Harry on 4th Jul 2018

It's that time of the week again! Today we're talking place names so your lovely guests know where to sit. There's many ideas out there and whether the place name also acts as the favour. We will show some quick and some slightly longer ideas you can create yourself.

Place Names; One

Starting with a quick easy one that is very traditional.

You will need:

Extra large hydrangea stem

White place cards

Glue

Pen

Take your card • Write the name • Glue on a petal for decoration

It's that simple. If you wish to spruce it up further, think about the colour of the pen, try calligraphy, or stamps, or a collage? What ever fits best into your theme.

This idea is great for busy brides who don't have a lot of time to create more elaborate designs, or someone who is after a more simplistic style. Have a go yourself and don't forget to tag us @countrybaskets.

Place Names; Two

Let's go for a slightly longer creation.

You will need:

Extra large hydrangea stem blue

Wooden craft sticks

Patterned or plain card

Glue gun

Scissors

Needle

Thread

Pen

Putting all these products together to create something fun and unusual for a place name will take a little more time. It can be a conversation starter for guests who don't know each other and is just a little fun idea to add an extra touch of your personality to the wedding. See how to make it here.

Place Names; Three

This is a example of a quick easy place name that doubles up as a favour.

You will need:

Cosmopolitan scent tea lights (shop in stores)

Velvet single sided ribbon purple

Glass tea light holder 6.5cm

Brown tags with hearts

Pen

  • Take your ribbon and cut it at 80cm, this will be different if using a different holder • Wrap your ribbon around the holder making sure each length is equal • Tie a tight knot • Now tie a neat bow, trying to keep the velvet showing as much as possible • Write out a label with the guests name • Slide it on the ribbon • Cut the ends of the ribbon for extra added detail • Add the tealight and your done!
  • There you have it. A place name that doubles up perfectly as a favour for your guests. It's fairly inexpensive and quick for you to make, even if you have got 100+ guests!

    Place Names; Four

This cute beachy feel place name wont take to long to make.

    You will need:

    Extra large hydrangea stem blue

    Dried pine wood slice x60

    Wooden craft sticks

    Glue stick/pen

    Patterned card

    Glue gun

    Scissors

    Pen

It's a fairly straightforward design but for step by step instructions click here.

So cute, a little umbrella for your guests to own. It's so versatile so can fit into many themes or wedding locations. We of course have used silk flowers but you can dress your umbrella up however you like, maybe a fringed edge or glitter. If you want a completely covered umbrella, try having the name hanging in bunting style around the edge? If your handwriting's not that fantastic try using some metallic or glittery alphabet stickers.

    Place Names; Five

    You will need:

Assortment of 4 small wooden frames (find in stores)

    Extra large hydrangea stem blue

    Lollipop sticks (find in stores)

    Coloured card (find in stores)

    Glue gun

    Scissors

    Needle

    Thread

    Ruler

    Pen

A pretty easy and fun place name. It will take a little longer to make so more suitable for a smaller wedding. For a step by step guide on how to make it click here.

Here you have it, a new use for a frame. Just imagine a whole table laid out beautifully with an assortment of mini frames placed on the napkins. The wood is neutral allowing the design to fit in with almost anything. To add even more personality, try swapping the name card for a small hanging photo of your guest?

    Place Names; Six

Let's end with a simplistic, gorgeous and super quick design!

    You will need:

    Velvet single sided ribbon purple

    Meadow astrantia blue 66cm

    Statice spray purple 47cm

    Aster spray purple 64cm

    Scissors

Cut a flower head with plenty of stem from each variety of flower • Cut a piece of ribbon long enough to tie in a bow • Arrange cut flowers neatly together • Tie together tightly with the ribbon in a single knot • Tie a pretty bow, trying to keep the velvet side on show • Write out a tag and slide on one of the ribbon ends • Cut the ribbon ends to finish off (as pictured)

This is another great example of a favour and place name combined. It's everlasting, beautiful and can be made up in advance saving you lots of stress nearer or on the day. With thousands of different silks to choose from your bound to find the perfect little bunch to tie into your wedding.
